The USS Monitor Center, Mariners' Museum, Newport News, Virginia
A 63,500-square-foot addition to the museum includes a state-of-the-art conservation lab for large maritime artifacts and the U.S.S. Monitor exhibits. Among the highlights is a full-size steel replica of the Monitor. Ultimately, the craft’s restored turret will be displayed. Immersive media experiences take visitors inside the turret on the day of the battle, surround them with the storm that sank her, and puts them into the shoes of the team it required to raise significant portions of the vessel.
