Mechanical Wonders: The Sandoz Collection, A La Vieille Russie, New York, New York
A major challenge in the design process was the just-days-before-opening arrival date of many of the artifacts.Three-dimensional
Sketchup models of every object were built so that cases could be schematically laid out and mounts planned. 4274 directed master mount-maker
Alberto Barrera to develop a universal watch mount for the exhibition that permitted supports to be
prepared before the artifacts arrived. The supports were then bent into the required custom shape for each watch in the few days before
the opening. For stability and flexibility of display, 4274 created arrangements of sanded acrylic blocks that included drilled holes
for the mounts as needed. The frosted blocks prevented unwanted reflections, but they glowed softly within the lit cases.
